Mattu Gulla Sukka | GSB Special Recipe | ಮಟ್ಟು ಗುಳ್ಳ ಸುಕ್ಕ
A traditional Gaud Saraswat Brahmin (GSB) delicacy made with the famous Mattu Gulla brinjal, cooked in a flavorful coconut masala.
Ingredients
For the Vegetables:
2 Mattu Gulla (cubed)
2 drumsticks, cut into pieces
4–5 tbsp coconut oil
1 tbsp salt (or to taste)
1 tbsp jaggery powder
Water, as required
For the Tadka:
1 tbsp mustard seeds
A few curry leaves
For the Masala:
1 tbsp roasted urad dal
1 tbsp roasted coriander seeds
5–6 roasted dried red chilies
2 cups grated coconut
½-inch tamarind
Method
Chop the Mattu Gulla into cubes and soak the pieces in water.
Heat 4–5 tbsp coconut oil in a pan.
Add the mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add the curry leaves.
Add the chopped Mattu Gulla and drumstick pieces.
Add salt and jaggery powder. Mix well and cover with a lid.
Sprinkle a little water if required and cook until the vegetables are tender.
Add all the masala ingredients to a mixer jar and grind to a coarse texture.
Add the ground masala to the cooked vegetables.
Add a little water and mix well.
Cover and cook on a medium flame for a few minutes.
Mattu Gulla Sukka is ready to serve!
Serve hot with steamed rice and dal for an authentic GSB meal.
