In today’s video, Bapama shows us how to make traditional Goan Appo – soft, golden wheat berry fritters made using soaked wheat berries, fresh coconut and jaggery, then fried generously in ghee using a traditional utensil called the Appe Kaili.

This is a nostalgic homemade sweet from GSB Konkani cuisine that has been prepared in coastal homes for generations. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and rich with the aroma of ghee and jaggery, Appo is one of those timeless recipes that instantly brings back memories of festivals, family gatherings and traditional kitchens.

The batter is made by grinding soaked wheat berries with coconut and jaggery, then adjusted to the perfect consistency with wheat flour before being slow-cooked in the Appe Kaili.

– 1 Cup Grated Coconut
– 50 Grams Jaggery
– Salt to taste
