For my Konkani family, friends, and followers — this one is especially for you 💛
Welcome to the very first episode of Amma’s Coastal Kitchen, and we’re beginning with a recipe that instantly tastes like summer at home: Ambe Sasam 🥭
If you’re Amchigelle, from a GSB family, or grew up around Karwar, Shimoga, or the coastal side of Karnataka, you already know the emotion behind this dish.
It’s sweet, tangy, gently spicy, and deeply comforting — the kind of recipe that doesn’t just fill your plate, it brings back people, places, and memories.
Quick method:
• Peel the mangoes and keep them aside
• Squeeze the peels with a little water to get every bit of pulp
• Add extra mango pulp for a thicker texture
• Prepare a tempering with oil, mustard, jeera, dried red chillies, curry leaves, and green chillies
• Add the mango mixture, jaggery, and salt
• Let it simmer briefly
• Finish with freshly grated coconut
And just like that, your Ambe Sasam is ready ✨
Best enjoyed with hot white rice, hungry people around you, and absolutely no plans to share 😌
