For almost a year – Donald Trump was blackmailing and terrorising the world with his tariff threats.
From 3% – India went to 50% tariff bracket – even after a trade (surrender) deal – it was 18% – while American goods were to pat ZERO tariffs in India. (not to mention opening up Agriculture)
Now the American Supreme Court has spoilt his whole plan – because Trump never really had the power to impose arbitrary tariffs. That power was with the legislature. Trump has gone ballistic after this setback and vowed not to back down.
What does this mean for India – will we get to renegotiate the trade deal – or we are locked in an unequal pact for years to come???
