A mountain village feared the forest for years — until one night, a roar rose from the forest that put out every lantern in the village. Woodcutter Rustam and village schoolteacher Shazia entered the dark forest with one lantern to find the school’s old brass bell, lost somewhere among the trees. Whispers repeated their own names. A circle of moss stones. A huge animal statue that turned its head. Wet paw prints leading into the fog. At a ruined shrine, the old bell rang once — all by itself. Then two amber eyes glowed in the fog: the Stone Shadow was standing there. It did not attack. It backed away. And behind them, the path had changed. An old carving told the truth: a hundred years ago, a cruel chief had bound the forest’s guardian beast in chains — and that cruelty had turned the beast into stone. Rustam laid down his axe. Shazia lifted the bell and rang it gently, once. The great stone head bowed. And when forgiveness was spoken, golden light ran through the stone. The beast became the statue of an old man kneeling — then crumbled peacefully into moss-covered stones. Birdsong echoed in the forest again. In the morning, the bell hung at the school door, and the children returned, laughing. At the forest’s edge, Rustam planted a young sapling. Remember: forgiveness is the power that can free even a heart turned to stone.
