NASA held a special press conference to share big news from Mars. The Perseverance rover found a rock that may have signs of ancient microbial life. This rock came from an old riverbed in Jezero Crater on Mars.
The rock is very old — around 3 to 4 billion years old. Inside it, scientists saw strange shapes, like small dark rings and spots. On Earth, similar patterns are sometimes made by tiny living things, like bacteria, long ago.
The rover also found certain minerals in the rock, like vivianite and greigite. On Earth, these minerals can form when microbes are present. This makes scientists think the rock might have been shaped by life.
This does not prove that life existed on Mars. The signs could also come from non-living chemical processes. NASA says they must bring the rock samples back to Earth for more tests to be sure.
If this is confirmed, it would be the strongest sign ever that Mars once had life. It would help scientists learn how life can start on other planets. This discovery could change how we see our place in the universe.
