Batanya ambat ❤️
(A comfort Green peas curry)
Ingredients:
Fresh Green Peas – 1 cup ( washed )
Potatoes – 2 medium-sized, peeled & chopped into small cubes
Coconut – freshly grated, ¾ cup
Dried spicy Red chilli’s – 4-5 ( roasted)
byadgi red chillis 1-2 ( roasted in little oil)
Onion – 1 large, finely chopped
Tamarind – 1 small lemon sized ball
Cooking oil – 1 tbsp
Salt to taste
Recipe
Add grated coconut, roasted chillies ( both types), tamarind with little water to a mixer jar and grind it to a smooth paste. Keep it aside
Now heat some water and when it comes to a boil add the chopped potatoes. When they are half cooked, add fresh green peas . Add some salt here. After a few minutes , put the smooth paste of coconut, tamarind and red chillies. Mix nicely. Keep the flame low. Once it comes to a boil, the rawness of the paste goes away and masala is cooked properly. Check and add salt here.
Phanna/Tadka or tempering :
Heat the oil in a small pan, set to medium heat , put the finely chopped onions and fry till they become golden brown.
Put the seasoning of onions in the boiling curry. Close the lid. Turn off the gas.
Our batanya ambat is ready to serve with hot rice or rotis.
Note: You can also use frozen green peas instead of fresh green peas. Frozen peas have to be soaked in water for some time and then used.
