My mother taught me one valuable lesson that I’ve used to get to where I am today. And
where am I? Las Vegas.
Who am I? Well, that depends on who you are. To some, I’m the king. The judge, juror, and
executioner. To others, I’m just another rich asshole who owns a few casinos.
But I own more than that. I own the strip and the streets surrounding it. I own this city, and
it’ll have to be wrenched from my cold, dead hands before I hand it over to anyone else.
When I spot her, I don’t sense the desperation that wafts off the usual crowd. No, she has a
loneliness that rivals my own, a sadness that I want to soak in, and a body made to sin with.
What was that lesson my mother taught me? Trust no one. The thing is, Charlotte is taking a
wrecking ball to that lesson because every fiber of my being wants to trust this woman.

Charlotte
When you don’t want to be seen, find a crowded place and blend in.
That’s exactly why I came to Vegas. To not be seen. I figured with all the flashing lights,
alcohol, drugs, people… no one would notice me.
But he did. And I don’t know how to get him to unsee me. Or if I even want him to.
This city was supposed to be my sanctuary, a place to forget who I am. Or should I say who I
was? A place to let go of the past. A place no one would ever think to look for me.
It was supposed to be just one weekend. But now I think it might be so much more…

Taylor Swift said once, “The scary news is, you are on your own now. But the cool news is, you are on your own now” The fear of loneliness has been injected into our minds since we were kids. We have learned that the kid who eats, & sits alone, and has no friends is pathetic. In every book/movie, the kid with no friends is always featured as a weak character who needs to be saved. No one wants to be seen as a ‘weirdo’ hence, our dread of being alone. We don’t want people to think of us as unwanted or not fitting in with the cool kids. We don’t want people to think that no one chose us. So what do we do? We start becoming like an ideal version of whom everyone loves. And in the race to achieve people’s acceptance and love, you lose yourself. But enough is enough. The book is divided into two sections. The first section is about transforming loneliness into solitude. And the second section is about using your solitude to turn it into your growth period. If you are ready to transform your perception around loneliness and achieve your goals using your ‘alone time’ then welcome to ‘The Art of Being Alone.’
