At the BT India@100 Summit, Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe addressed questions over staff workload, voluntary retirement and working hours at FDA laboratories. In conversation with India Today TV’s Preeti Choudhry, Mundhe denied claims of widespread voluntary retirement or employees being forced to work overtime. He explained that laboratories operate round the clock through shifts, but individual employees work only one shift. Mundhe said the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar laboratory moved to a two-shift system after concerns over delays in processing food samples. He clarified that staff work six days a week, with one weekly holiday, and not more than 48 hours a week, in line with labour laws. He also explained the prescribed timeline for testing food samples and stressed that there is no compromise on employee working conditions.
