Ingredients For Dal & Rice:
Toor dal 1/4 cup
Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
Rice 3/4 cup
Ingredients for tempering :
Ghee 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds 1 tsp
Broken red chilli 2
Few curry leaves
Hing / asafoetida 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Method :
Rinse overnight soaked dal well.
Add required water and turmeric powder.
Rinse rice well.
Add 3/4 cup water to the rice.
Pressure cook dal and rice for two whistles.
Open the lid only after pressure releases naturally.
Remove rice and keep aside.
Add salt to cooked dal and mix well.
Temper the dal with ingredients given above.
Mix well.
Dal Thove or Dalitoy is ready to serve.
Ingredients For Beans Carrot Upkari / stir fry :
Carrot 1
Chopped beans 1 cup
Oil 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds 1 tsp
Broken red chillies 2
Few curry leaves
Salt to taste
Method :
Heat oil in a pan.
Add mustard seeds, red chillies and curry leaves.
Mix well.
Add chopped carrot, chopped beans and salt to taste.
Mix well.
Cover and cook 10 – 15 minutes on low flame.
Add little water if needed.
Turn off the flame.
Beans carrot upkari is ready to serve.
Ingredients for capsicum phodi / fry :
Besan / gram flour 1/2 cup
Rice flour 2 tbsp
Hing 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Capsicum 2
Oil as required.
In a bowl add gram flour, rice flour, hing and salt.
Mix well.
Add water little by little and make a thick paste.
Coat capsicum pieces well and deep fry on hot oil.
Cook till both sides turn crisp and golden brown in colour.
Remove and keep aside.
Ingredients for millet kheer :
Little millet / varai / sama rice 1/4 cup
Milk 2 cups
Ghee 1 tbsp
Cashew nuts 10 – 15
Raisins 10 – 15
Few saffron strands
Cardamom powder 1 tsp
Jaggery syrup 1/2 cup
Rinse little millet well and soak 30 minutes.
Heat ghee in a pan.
Fry cashew nuts and raisins for few minutes.
Add milk and millet.
Mix well and cook on medium flame till millet cooks well.
Stir occasionally.
Add saffron strands and mix well.
Mixture becomes thick.
Add cardamom powder and mix well.
Tur off the flame.
Let it cool 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes add jaggery syrup to avoid milk curdling.
Mix well.
Millet jaggery kheer is ready to serve.
Simple and healthy Veg thali is ready to serve.
