In 1983, before WrestleMania and before WWF became WWE, Hulk Hogan traveled to Bophuthatswana, South Africa to face Terry Funk, who was the reigning NWA World Heavyweight Champion.
Hulk Hogan says he was promised $30,000 wired before he left the United States.
The money never hit his account.
According to Hogan, the American Embassy got involved, a check was cut overseas, and he cashed it inside a casino before being driven down a dirt road where he says men were clicking a pistol at his face.
This was territorial-era NWA wrestling before Hulkamania, before WCW, before the global expansion of WWE.
