Today is Vijayadashami. Across the country and the world, devotees of Lord Ram are celebrating this festival with deep faith and reverence. In the context of electoral politics in Uttar Pradesh, the day’s festivities are accompanied by political messaging—most notably in the Dussehra greetings shared on social media. This Vijayadashami has also marked the launch of several political campaigns; for instance, Akhilesh Yadav flagged off the ‘PDA’ (Pichde, Dalit, Alpsankhyak – Backward classes, Dalits, and Minorities) election chariots, a process accompanied by formal rituals, the chanting of mantras, and the blowing of a conch shell. Meanwhile, the Congress and the Samajwadi Party continue to exert pressure on each other regarding seat-sharing arrangements in UP. Additionally, there is significant buzz surrounding a scheduled meeting on October 18th between UP BJP state president Pankaj Chaudhary and Raja Bhaiya, which is set to take place at the latter’s residence in Lucknow.
